I went to a really great opening last night at a temporary space opened by the James Fuentes Gallery. The artist, William (Bill) Stone was exhibiting his delightful studies on typical housewares. Each piece had been either manipulated, built, or rebuilt in some abstracted way. Everyone kept talking about how he prefers not to take his work seriously and that his process is more about playing. Learning that was really satisfying to me, though it was already quite evident– in almost every aspect of the exhibit the feeling was loose, and very comfortable. The after party was just as good, everyone went over to the artist's house where there were people cooking for the guests as though it were a family barbeque, and again the mood was genuinely lighthearted and happy, pretentiousness clearly absent.
A nod to my friend Kevin McLeod who curated it, a job well done. Nice poster too.
Check out the press release, and do see the show if you are able.
