Also, I've been meaning to address some continued footwear trends I've been taking note of lately.
1. Chunky Nu-Rave
Reebok
Omni Pump Lite Monsters Pack
Omni Pump 7-sins Pack
Alien Stomper Herringbone
x RZO ERS 5000 "Marilyn Monroe" Edition
Etnies Plus 2009
New Balance Optimystik x Mita Sneakers A03 Pack
I find the continued Nu-Rave tendency in a lot of products coming from Reebok, Onitsuka Tiger, and a handful of skate brands. This look is epitomized by the overt use of color and accessory. More than anything, it defines what it means to beat on a dead horse and ignore innovation.
2. Retro/Future High Tops
DC Lemar Dauley Double Label
Louis Vuitton Kanye
Supra Terry Kennedy Pro Model
Dior Homme High Tops
Gucci High Tops
Knowing that Kanye's new shoe is among this group gives me the sense that I may be a little out of touch. Regardless, this series of high tops that I've aptly titled retro-future based on their futuristic looking accessories and above and beyond silhouette giving that gives the impression of some retro notion of outer space footwear. Likely resulting from a mixture of popular early 90s basketball shoes, and the recent Common Projects craze, this look appeals to the fashionable hip-hop crowd and designer goths and everything that can be connected between the two– all tied to the goal of begging to be noticed, dying to be different.
Nearly all of these pictures were taken from places like High Snobiety, whose role is to deliver the word on new product, mostly limited or under the radar. I wonder if the makers of these shoes are writing some their cheques. They ought to hire the Arab Parrot to scare the shit of out the people who come up with these ideas. They also ought to ask the question: are these bright green chunky high tops with gold stitching and one-off emblem recession proof?
